GG Reid is a painter who lives and works in Dallas, TX. She moved to Dallas after 20 years in the Greater NYC area. GG has a BFA and an MSW from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has art featured in both juried national and international competitions and on Artsy with ArtHelix Gallery of Brooklyn. GG’s previous career as a psychotherapist is reflected in sone of the pyschological and emotional underpinnings found in her art.

ART STATEMENT

In my work, I seek the revelation of the composition and structure within the improvisational beginning as it emerges during the more reasoned stage of the process. My interest is in the balance point between the raw and primitive and the refined.

I use my visual language to create a dialogue between the paint and the canvas. My alphabelt includes color, texture, mark making, layers, drips and line. My process includes chance, letting go, knowing, not knowing, losing control and getting it back. Music is my muse. My paintings often contain deeply personal narratives sometimes hidden even to myself, yet they reveal themselves to me over time. At times, my subject is the beauty of paint itself in the abstract expressionist tradition.
